Louisiana Missouri Honors A Favorite Son

A hundred and fifty six years after he left home town Louisiana to serve in the United States Senate, John Brooks Henderson will receive his due on July 4, 2018. This Independence Day, the citizens of Louisiana will dedicate a bust of Henderson that is being placed on a hilltop overlooking the Mississippi River, in a park long known as Henderson Park.  The dedication is part of Louisiana’s bicentennial celebration.

John B. Henderson was the author of the first draft of the 13th Amendment to the U. S. Constitution, which abolished slavery in all of the states of the union following the Civil War.
