DRED SCOTT STATUE PENNY DRIVE

Updated at March 30, 2010 14:21

The Dred Scott Heritage Foundation  is holding a Penny Drive to help fund a life-size statue of Dred and Harriet Scott.  The statue will be placed near the Old Courthouse, the site of the Dred Scott trials.  The idea for a Penny Drive came from visitors who often leave pennies at Dred Scott’s gravesight (Calvary Cemetery).  According the Dred Scott Heritage Foundation, it is believed the penny is left as a tribute to Abe Lincoln, who is an icon for the abolition of slavery.    You can bring your pennies to any one of three Southwest Banks participating in the Penny Drive and or their website:  www.mysouthwestbank.com.  For more information on bank locations, the Penny Drive and The Dred Scott Heritage Foundation, please visit their website:  www. the dredscottfoundation.org.
